Just furniture, folks – 133th Edition

“What is that place?” You’ve probably been asked that question by visiting friends or family members when they catch their first glimpse of the World Market Center, which may be the most misunderstood building complex in Las Vegas. The three connected buildings dominate the downtown skyline, their massive, oddly angular shapes like something out of a Dr. Seuss book. Yet, the unsettling lack of windows on several walls gives them a mysterious, slightly foreboding air. And for 50 weeks out of the year, the massive complex seems practically devoid of human activity. Other than in its popular Mexican restaurant Mundo, the center usually feels like a modern urban ghost town. When asked about it, most of us just shrug in ignorance.
